July 2019

Dear Parent/Carer,

This is the third end of year newsletter I have written since taking over as Headteacher of Holly Lodge and I am delighted to be able to do so after such a successful year. Highlights this year included;

  • A successful Ofsted Monitoring Visit in January
  • Excellent responses in student, staff and parental surveys
  • Our largest Year 7 cohort since 2008
  • 4 successful applications for public school bursaries by Year 11 students
  • 117 trips and visits totaling 138 days with over 2200 students involved
  • All of Years 9 and 10 visiting Liverpool University with 18 students in Year 10 on study residentials
  • Numerous successes in sport by all years – please see the accompanying newsletter.

Staffing Changes

We say goodbye to the following members of staff this year and wish them all good luck in their new adventures; Miss McVey, Miss Keenan and Mrs Tedford. We thank them all for their hard work and dedication to our students during their time with us.

In addition, we have made a number of internal appointments as follows;

Free School Meals

If you believe you may be entitled to Free School Meals, we would urge you to make a claim and use your entitlement even if you daughter does not want to take advantage of the free meal, as her registration means that we can access additional funding for school and support your daughter’s learning.

Parking

Mill Lane Car Park will not be accessible at the end of each day.  In common with most secondary schools in Liverpool, we will have a barrier installed at the entrance to the Mill Lane car Park. Entry will be controlled at this point and only visitors who have business in school will be able to enter. If you park locally to collect your daughter, please be considerate of our neighbours, park safely with your engine off and do not park across driveways. I would like to thank parents for their cooperation and support in this last week since we changed the parking arrangements in Mill Lane.

Uniform

Please note that earrings (even studs) are not a part of our school uniform. If you plan to get your daughter’s ears pierced over the summer please do so at the start of the holiday so that they have time to heal before she returns to school without any studs in. Please also note that girls will require a plain black weatherproof outdoor coat for the winter months. It also part of our uniform that all shoulder length or long hair should be tied back and be of natural colour.

Mobile Devices

Please note that we have changed our rules on mobile devices in school. They are only allowed to be used by students during the first 20 minutes of break and the first 40 minutes of lunch. Any mobile phones seen outside these times or in a learning building at any time will be confiscated by staff and parents will be required to come and collect them.

Results Days

Sixth Form Results Day is Thursday 15th of August. Results and support will be available in the Atrium from 8am for Year 13 and 9.30am for Year 12.

GCSE Results Day is Thursday 22nd of August. Results for Year 11 to 13 will be available in the Atrium from 10am to 12pm, whilst Year 10 results will be available between 11am and 12pm.

Return to School

We return to school on Wednesday 4th September. Years 8 to 11 will need to be at their Form Rooms by 12.55pm. Staff will be on the gates to meet parents and students. Your daughter will spend the afternoon in Form and assemblies. Normal lessons will start on Thursday 5th September. Alternative arrangements exist for 6th Form students and these will be posted separately.

With best wishes for a long and happy holiday,

Yours sincerely,

Mr A Keen

Headteacher
