At  Holly Lodge we are particularly proud of our school catering provision and our Catering Team provides healthy and imaginative meals and snacks from locally sourced produce, prepared here in our kitchens. Our menus are nutritionally compliant and meet all statutory requirements.

Food is available to students at the following times

• 8.00 am- 8.20 am Breakfast, including toast, cheese on toast , hot drinks [ year 7 and 8]
• 9.50am- 10.15 am  Breaktime – including  Toast, Bacon balms  [ year 9, 10,11]
• 11.30am -12.15 pm Lunch 1 [ Year 8 and Year 9]
• 12.15pm- 1.00pm Lunch 2 [ Year 7 , Year 10 , Year 11]

Students are only allowed to drink plain water in school, including in  packed lunches . This is because we are concerned about the effects on behaviour and health of high sugar drinks which many students bring to school each day. Any non-compliant drinks will be confiscated and disposed of.

Our Meal Deal offer consists of  a main meal and either a cake/cookie OR a bottle of water and is charged at £2.20 .

Additional items are available for students to purchase  outside of the meal deal offer and they will be charged accordingly.

Our free school meal offer is a  Meal Deal offer of  a main meal and either a cake/cookie OR a bottle of water . A Free School Meal is available at lunch time only.

Water fountains are available in the food court for students to get  a drink or refill their personal water bottles at no charge.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

From September 2026, the eligibility criteria for free school meal are changing. The Department for Education is expanding FSM entitlement to all children living in households receiving Universal Credit and this will mean that even more students will now be eligible to a free school meal.

If you are receiving certain benefits, a FREE tasty and nutritious school meal is available for your child – BUT YOU MUST APPLY!

Consider the benefits:

• A free school meal for your child, which is good for their health and could help their learning.
• Savings for you, worth over £350 a year.
• Extra money for the school through Pupil Premium, worth at least £900 a year.

By registering your child for Free School Meals it means that school receives the extra money even if you don’t take up the free meal. No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.

Do you qualify?

 If you receive these benefits, your daughter may be eligible:

• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (as long as you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit) if you have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190
• Working Tax Credit run-on, but not if you receive Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit, if your earned income after tax is £616.67 per month (£7,400 per year) or less

If you live in another Local Authority , please check their website for details of how to apply. You will need your National Insurance number or Asylum Seekers support number and be in receipt of one of the income related benefits listed on the form

• If you want your child to have a free, healthy meal at lunchtime that’s tasty and filling  – they will get the free meal (saving you more than £350 a year) and the school gets extra money to help your child and others in their class.

• If you don’t want your child to have a free school meal they can continue as normal – as long as you qualify, and are registered, the school still gets the extra money.

We urge you to check if you are eligible under the new guidance which covers any household that is in receipt of universal credit. This can be either parent so do check for both. Please do take the time to see if you are eligible even if your daughter does not want to take a school meal as school may be able to access additional funding based on the numbers of students who are eligible for FSM.

Food allergen advice

At Holly Lodge,  we provide food throughout the school day for our pupils/students staff and visitors.

Our premises are regularly inspected by the Local Environmental Health Officer who uses the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme to rate the hygiene standards of our school. The school catering company is responsible for the food provision at the school. Our catering manager is based in the school kitchen between 7.30am and 3.00pm.
